KTVA GM: We're weren't plotting against @JoeMiller. And I told our unbiased staff how not to get caught. #AKSen

KTVA General Manager Jerry Bever tries to spin the inadvertent damning voice mail his staff left with the Joe Miller for U.S. Senate campaign.

Fisking Bever:

"It's unfortunate that this recording has happened."

Unfortunate for whom? I'd say it's a good thing the bias of your "news" organization was uncovered before Alaskans have a chance to go to the polls on November 2. You have been running a liberal advocacy organization, and now you've been caught with your collective pants down.

"It's unfortunate because it does not accurately reflect the journalistic standards of our newsroom ..."

The standards of your newsroom and the way that it operates are two different things. You have a culture of advocacy for liberal causes and candidates, Mr. Bever, and quickly going through the kabuki theater of a journalism 101 inservice will not change that.

"... and the garbled context will no doubt leave more questions than answers."

Yes, starting with "How deeply into your station's management structure is the dedication to electing Democrats embedded?"

"The Miller campaign's analysis of the recording is incorrect in many material ways ranging from personnel involved in the conversation, the interpretation of conversation snippets and the reported transcript of the perceived garbled conversation."

While it may be vacuously true that the Miller campaign lacks the full context of the conversation, it is incontrovertible that your news staff was engaging in an anti-Miller strategy session.

What should not be news to the general public is the degree to which journalists in the paid media are hardened, loyal Democrats. Drift into a press room before any candidate function or press conference wearing black and carrying a camera or notepad. Listen to the conversation when no one but Democrats and reporters are present.

It's one big happy family.

Finally, the tell:

"Have we had internal discussions about the level of professionalism we need to bring to our conversations, internally and externally? Of course we have, this is a lesson to learn from."

In other words, "We've told our staff not to get caught."

While Bever would not discuss any personnel issues linked with the recording, Bever says "Have we had internal discussions about the level of professionalism we need to bring to our conversations,

internally and externally? Of course we have, this is a lesson to learn from."

A press release issued Saturday October 30, 2010, by the Joe Miller campaign claims that KTVA personnel, "openly discuss creating, if not fabricating, two stories about Republican nominee for U.S. Senate, Joe Miller." KTVA General Manager Jerry Bever says, "It's unfortunate that this recording has happened. It's unfortunate because it does not accurately reflect the journalistic standards of our newsroom and the garbled context will no doubt leave more questions than answers. The Miller campaign's analysis of the recording is incorrect in many material ways ranging from personnel involved in the conversation, the interpretation of conversation snippets and the reported transcript

Erick Erickson over at Redstate makes a powerful statement about how the incoming Republican freshmen in Congress should act.

An Open Letter to the Freshman Republican Victors

Posted by Erick Erickson (Profile)

In the next 72 hours, you will be elected to the United States Congress. Suddenly you will find that you have friends you never knew you had. Remember that most of them are not actually your friends.

Many members of Congress will begin whispering sweet nothings in your ear wooing you to vote for them and their rules for the House and Senate. Remember that these same men are the exact same people that the voters rejected in 2006 and again in 2008.

Remember that every poll showing a Republican landslide on Tuesday also shows that the public hates these men.

Don't forget, you have US folks

Erick Brockway

We’re here for you, as long as you’re in DC for us.

When the media won’t listen and your words go unheard, we’re here. The hated “TEA Party” goers, the phone bankers. People will pull over to the side of the road on a Tweet from you (literally) and start calling whoever we need to.

Also, there are plenty of “dumb bloggers” who do a lot of research, and can be your “invisible staffers” if you just keep your eyes on places like RedState; not just the front page, but the Recommended Diaries also.

Malkin, Riehl, Ace, Morrissey, too many to name live to make or break candidates, watch their sites; do it yourself, don’t just send a staffer. You’ll always be traveling, you have time.

The way the Dems use press releases, you need to add an email blast to all the bloggers. Use Twitter and hash tags the way the left uses networks and microphone flags. Give us links to bills with important parts highlighted. Post them here and on Google Docs.

Most important, don’t forget to pray (if so inclined). I know from personal experience that the power of prayer is real; there is a God, there is ONE God, and whatever the left and other skeptics say, that God is real.

Now, hit the ground running!

We’re praying for you.

Bobby Schilling ready to take #IL17 from Phil "I Don't Care about the Constitution" Hare #teaparty #tcot

Bobby Schilling is a pizza man. He should also be the next Congress man from Illinois' 17th District.

But it's going to take a lot of legwork. The SEIU and other government unions want to keep the socialist they have in office. Because Phil Hare doesn't care whether laws he wants to pass are supported by our Constitution.

He also doesn't mind making up endorsements. Watch this painful video to remind you of Phil Hare's uselessness, and then go to Redstate to read about his dishonesty.

And now

Amplify’d from www.redstate.com

Phil Hare (D, IL-17) lies about corn growers’ endorsement.

You know, in some ways I’m going to miss this miserable ignoramus, once he’s gone: Phil Hare’s such a marvelous chew toy, and the ones that I had expected to be savaging this season were unexpectedly unsatisfying. Alan Grayson? Too slimy; I wanted to take a shower every time I saw him in the news. Carol Shea-Porter? The room-temperature IQ problem made it kind of unsporting. Okinawa Jack Murtha? Died on me. But Hare (and Russ Carnahan, who I will also kind of miss smacking around) has been reliably bad since he first hove into view.

His latest goof-up? Claiming the endorsement of the Illinois Corn Grower’s Association, only to have the ICGA explicitly contradict him in public. Needless to say, the Bobby Schilling campaign - which will not miss Hare in any way, shape or form - was happy to point this out… and to point out that people don’t like career politicians for a reason.

Mark Kirk (R-IL) for US Senate #ILSen #tcot #teaparty

Republican Mark Kirk is running for United States Senate from Illinois. Congressman Kirk has represented Illinois' 10th District since 1998, and is running against Obama crony mob banker Alexi Giannoulias.  With strong stances on defense and economic issues, Kirk is the clear choice over Giannoulias.

The Illinois Senate ballot will actually contain two separate elections, one for the upcoming 6-year Senate term, and one for the remainder of Barack Obama's term. Obama was forced to resign in 2008 amid a scandal involving jailed former governor Rod Blagojevich. That means should he win Kirk would replace Roland Burris in the Senate to vote against the Obama agenda during the "lame duck" session.

With Harry Reid promising a vote on the DREAM Act, granting legal status to illegal immigrant students, having an immigration hawk like Kirk in the Senate during the lame duck session could decide the outcome.  Giannoulias is a sure vote for the entire Obama-Reid-Pelosi leftist agenda, being unable to name a single issue on which he would break from them.

Kirk is also strong on national defense issues, earning the endorsement of such groups as the National Defense PAC and Vets for Freedom. A military veteran of over 20 years in the Naval Reserves, Kirk has been a clear and consistent voice for a strong defense in the post-9/11 era.

Despite his backgound in mob banking, Alexi Giannoulias is really not that strong when it comes to economic issues.  The Illinois Chamber of Commerce has gone with Mark Kirk:

Mark Kirk has achieved a 7% rating from the AFL-CIO, indicating that he's against the union agenda that is crippling our government and economy.

A tax hawk, Kirk consistently votes to keep taxes low and the federal government within its constitutional limits.

For Tea Partiers, Conservatives, and any Republican, independent, or even Democrat who wants to stop the Obama-Reid-Pelosi agenda, Mark Kirk is the clear choice.

And he never made a loan to a mobster.

Phil ‘I Don’t Worry About Constitution’ Hare Debates Republican Bobby Schilling

As noted over at Socrates' Academy, anti-Constitutionalist Congressman Phil Hare's attack ads on Bobby Schilling haven't paid off.

Hare and his socialist friends are only cementing in voters' minds the idea that Hare wants higher taxes and more combersome trade. More regulated trade means less trade. Less trade means fewer jobs.

Voters are fed up in the 17th Congressional District in Illinois (sometimes called (IL-17, IL17, or ... well, you get it). They want government off the backs of small business and back onto its Constitutional leash.

Bobby Schilling is the man for that job.

Spread the word - Reid Kills Jobs. And #p2, that is why #teaparty and #tcot want @SharronAngle as #NVSen

This is Searchlight, NV, Harry Reid's home away from his true home at the Washington, DC Ritz-Carlton.

Even in Searchlight they know the truth, that Harry Reid has used his position in the Senate to enrich himself and his cronies while devastating the American economy. One of the hardest hit places is Nevada.

The economy in Nevada, especially Las Vegas, Reno, and Lake Tahoe, depends on tourism. Specifically, it depends on conventions coming to Las Vegas and on tourists coming to Nevada for its world-class hospitality industry.

But that's all dried up. Harry's best buddy and political patron Barack Obama has it in for Las Vegas and its opulence, while he himself rents out the entire Taj Majal Hotel, all 570 rooms, for a family vacation.

Obama doesn't like business. He doesn't like it because rather than understanding that when an employer hires someone, both win, he thinks when an employer wins it means the employee loses.

And Harry Reid falls right in line when Obama wants to make his lack of economic understanding official government policy. Whether it's telling companies not to use the world-class Las Vegas facilities for their important business meetings or pushing for socialized medicine, which Harry Reid slouched and bribed through the Senate, Reid falls right in line with Obama's wishes.

Both of these developments have been deadly for employment in Nevada.

I don't kinow if Harry Reid is a diehard socialist, as Obama is. But it doesn't matter. Because Harry Reid is in some ways worse: he's in politics to accumulate and wield personal power, not to advance an ideology, but for the sake of power itself.

I pray that Nevada votes him out of office.

Via AoSHQ:

Over a hundred people signed up to be write-in candidates. Hey, it's less complicated than getting all the signatures, running in the primaray, entering debates, presenting your ideas, and actually winning a primary to get your name on the ballot. This way, the government will print your name on a list at the polling place -- something even the primary winners cannot, by law, have.

You can't wear a t-shirt with a candidate's name on it, but if you fill out a form the government of Alaska will advertise you to the voters at the polls.

Raleigh, N.C. – Democratic incumbent Congressman Bob Etheridge’s electoral future appears to be in jeopardy as he trails Republican challenger Renee Ellmers by 5 percentage points with less than one week until the election.

According to the poll of 400 registered voters in North Carolina’s 2nd Congressional District, Ellmers leads Etheridge 46 percent to 41 percent.  Libertarian candidate Tom Rose garners 6 percent of the vote while 7 percent of voters are undecided.

Among voters who say they are definitely voting this year, Ellmers’ lead grows to 49 percent to 40 percent.

Support for Etheridge tracks nearly in line with voter support for President Barack Obama in the district.  An identical 41 percent of voters both approve of the job Obama is doing as President and say they are voting for Etheridge.  Ninety-seven percent of voters who say they disapprove of the job Obama is doing are voting for Ellmers.

Obama Appointed Sotamajor To Be a Leftist Bully

But to Obama, that would be a ringing endorsement.

Obama doesn't care for the petty traditions American institutions, except as he can use them for his own purposes.

Bluntly put, she’s not nearly as smart as she seems to think she is, and her reputation for being something of a bully could well make her liberal impulses backfire and simply add to the fire power of the Roberts/Alito/Scalia/Thomas wing of the Court on issues like those involved in the voting rights case argued last week and the Title VII case of the New Haven firefighters argued earlier, issues on which Kennedy will probably vote with Roberts despite Souter’s influence but on which I don’t regard Kennedy as a lost cause for the decade or so that he is likely to remain on the Court.

I’ve obtained a copy of an interesting letter that Harvard law professor Larry Tribe wrote to his protégé, President Barack Obama, in the immediate aftermath of Justice Souter’s announcement of his decision to retire from the Court. I will post a PDF of the letter shortly. [Update:  Here’s the letter.] In the meantime, I’ll call attention, in this post and two or three others, to some of its highlights.

Over the past month, I’ve been thinking about November 2nd. Quite a bit in fact. Every day, posts about various candidates are posted and almost all of us here at RedState read them eagerly, gleaning what we can to keep us optimistic. Before I can talk about the present, though, I need to go back to two years ago. Two long years ago (and it does seem like an eternity). I had gone to the polls with a heavy heart, knowing that our side had only the slimmest of chances to pull it out. November 2008, a month and year that brought despair and depression to many. Truthfully, I don’t think we knew how bad it would be, but instinctively we knew that something “wicked this way comes.” A dark cloud settled on the nation.

But little did we know how much trouble she was going to be. Because something appears to have her close, or possibly ahead of, Chris Coons. Perhaps it’s that Coons only catches the economic song about halfway. He knows the words, but not necessarily what they all mean.

An economic recession, for instance, usually means two or more quarters of no economic growth, or contraction. Even colloquially, it means a period of lackluster economic growth. When economic growth happens, by definition a recession is over.

Notice the reaction of Ms. O’Donnell when Coons educates us all:

Polls: Tight race in 14th Congressional District

October 19, 2010 (WLS) --
A Republican state senator is among the candidates hoping to unseat Democratic incumbent Bill Foster in the 14th District congressional race.

The seat once held by former House Speaker Dennis Hastert represents the far western suburbs.

The race is considered a dead heat and one that both major national parties are keeping a close eye on.

Republican Randy Hultgren is a financial planner, lawyer and state senator.

But polls say the race for Congress in Illinois' 14th district is like so many: a toss-up between the two major party candidates.

Both candidates disagree about the success or failure of stimulus spending. Hultrgen says it was not worth it in the 14th District.

"If anything, you could maybe argue there were about 600 jobs or less that were saved or created because of that," said Hultrgen.

While Foster voted for the stimulus and the health care bill, he has compiled a fairly conservative voting record among Democrats. Hultgren disagrees and says Foster has voted with Nancy Pelosi over 92 percent of the time.

An Oct. 17-19 poll showed West ahead 47-44.

West is strong on defense and believes strongly in limited government and in freeing the market to encourage prosperity.

A nation doesn't go to war against a tactic ... a nation goes to war against an ideology.

But there's more to West than just a steel spine. He also knows what it will take to recover from the endless Obama recession:

If we are serious about fixing our economy, then we must get back to basics. First, our tax code must be redefined. I support transitioning from the progressive tax to a flat tax system- both individual and corporate/business. Second, we must understand that the true strength of our economy lies within small businesses, and as elected leaders in Congress, we have an obligation to support small business growth through tax cuts and incentives. Finally we need to challenge the status quo in Washington and stop the floodgates of government spending. In the last two years alone, Democrats have quadrupled the deficit, thanks in large part to the failed stimulus package. Factoring in the recent passage of the healthcare bill, the deficit is projected to increase by $9.3 trillion over the next decade. As your Congressman, I will carry the torch of conservative, small government principles with me to Washington.

Democrats are running a smear campaign against West, using their wholly owned subsidiary NBC News.

Halvorson still touts her Cap and Trade vote on her official government web site.  Cap and Trade would devastate the Illinois economy, raising costs for farmers and limiting markets for Illinois coal.

Adam has the support of Tea Party groups and has been endorse by several local newspapers.

After Election Night: Be Ready to Lead. | #tcot #teaparty

Russ Vought is Executive Director of the Republican Study Committee, essentially the conservative caucus in the House. I agree with his general point, that the post-election battle for control of the Party in Congress is going to have ramifications for 2012 and beyond, and the incoming members aren't at all ready to make the decisions they'll need to make.

This is all predicated, of course, on Republicans retaking the House. If we do not, the long knives of the left and GOP moderates will be drawn, brandished, and used mercilessly. And we have won nothing yet.

Freshmen are unprepared for the transition from candidate, living on Chinese takeout and continental breakfast, to Congressman. They are even less ready to stand up and demand a change to leadership of a body they have not yet officially entered.

But this year is different. The new members of Congress will have to be fully up to speed even as they recover from election night celebrations.

A word to the wise: you got elected to take back the government, not to go along and get along. Take courage. Be strong, and unify quickly with those who are already there who share your beliefs. It's not about you, but your cause.

You may not get the ideal leadership team, but at least do not get steamrolled.

It’s Time to Make GOP Leadership Less Powerful

As Election Day approaches, no outcome should be taken for granted, but it looks increasingly likely that Republicans will take control of the House, and perhaps even the Senate. For those who want to reform Congress, increased thought and planning needs to take place now because many decisions are made the very next week after the election when Republicans “organize.”

During these organization meetings, Republicans will elect their leadership for the upcoming Congress, agree upon their internal conference rules, and give their blessing to the slate of members who will represent them on the powerful “steering” Committee that distributes committee assignments. Much of this resembles a bum’s rush where the current Leadership offers a series of resolutions, often designed to preserve their own power, that are quickly agreed to because none of the members in attendance are prepared (or willing) to object and consider the long-term ramifications for conservatives.

Yet in many respects, these organizational meetings will lay the framework for whether the incoming class of members will actually be able to change the way Congress and their party does business.

HT @KatyinIndy EPA screaming for Republicans to defund them. #teaparty #tcot

HT @KatyinIndy, who said:

EPA head: New carbon controls on big trucks & buses 'win for planet' http://is.gd/giZd0 #tcot #gop #ftrs #hhrs #sgp #tlot

This dogmatic pursuit of carbon emissions runs counter to sound bureaucracy. Good bureaucratic practice looks ahead to secure favor with incoming political leaders in the effort to secure ongoing funding.

Either the EPA is extremely confident on its funding, or the Agency is so preoccupied with advancing the junk science statist agenda that they simply don't care.

“This will be a win-win-win,” for reducing oil dependence, mitigating climate change and strengthening energy security, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said on a conference call with reporters.

EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson also called it a “win for the planet” in cutting emissions from vehicles that represent the second largest and fastest-growing group in oil consumption and greenhouse gas emissions in the transportation sector. Overall, the sector represents about 20 percent of all U.S. greenhouse gas emissions.

We have won nothing yet. #tcot #teaparty #GOTV @pinkelephantpun

This is it. This is the time that matters.

The next week will determine whether the country in which we grew up will exist for our grandchildren. Will they choose their own doctor? Will they get to pick their college? Wll they get a choice in the kind of car they drive, or how much they drive it, and to where?

And the only thing that matters now is face to face contact with people. You must spread the word. Get two or three friends, print up some lists of candidates on your local ballot, and walk around talking to your neighbors.

Cover every neighborhood, every block, every house. If it's raining, carry an umbrella.

This is the time that matters. Don't wimp out. Get Out The Vote.

Complacency.

We are eight days away from a massive election. That is a week and a day, for the mathematically challenged. In other words, not a lot of time.

There is no better time to step away from your computer and put up some signs or make some phone calls than right now. November 2nd is it, people. We don’t get a redo. What we do over the next eight days will impact our entire country for the next two years and beyond. This is the only shot we have at halting and reversing Obama’s agenda. Right now. This week.

What have you done? Have you taken time out of your weekend to walk a neighborhood with some literature? Have you gone for two hours after work to do some phone banking?

Organize an event in your area. Get your friends to come with you.

The $Trillion Question Bob "Who're You" Etheridge Won’t Answer | via @Renee4Congress #teaparty #NC02

Bob Etheridge has a problem.

After voting for the Obama agenda including the socialist fantasy budgets and failed "stimulus" spending, he has to run for reelection.

And after voting for ObamaCare to please his socialist masters in San Francisco and Washington, he now has to appear to be a conservative to win in North Carolina.

Watch the video of Renee Ellmers asking him if he really thinks the federal government can do a better job than individuals at making their own health care choices.

#Teaparty in Michigan's UP: Vote Benishek, not the misguided child Wilson #MI01 #tcot #tlot

Misguided and disgruntled "independent" Glenn Wilson is a self-serving punk who was rejected by the main body of UP Tea Party activists for his eccentric and nonsensical views. They also didn't like his inability to complete sentences.

One of Wilson's odd views is the belief in that a third party is needed. The rest of us get it: take back the Republican Party. Get rid of the power-hungry career politicians who are just in it for themselves. Get rid of people like ... Glenn Wilson.

Wilson decided to sabotage the Benishek campaign out of spite. That is why he lost his campaign manager, who resigned Oct 13 when Wilson refused to abandon his lost cause campaign.

The Democrats have figured out that they can use Wilson to beat Benishek. Which is all just fine with Wilson. As long as Benishek loses, he doesn't care if he wins.

Don't be fooled. See more at Redstate.

CD1 - Don’t Be Fooled

To my Tea Partying friends. If ever there was a time to break out the thinking cap, it is now.

Obviously we want limited government, we want the restoration of power to the people and not politicians. We are concerned that Washington is not listening to us, and that government has grown too large and cumbersome. There is no doubt where most of us stand… and why.

And part of her electoral entourage comprised of mostly Libertarians who have an unreasonable distrust in the ability of the Republican party to re-brand itself, EVEN WITH the tea party efforts have given Wilson that 7 percent base on which the independent candidate feels is an appropriate launch point for a campaign to nowhere. Those newly energized ‘conservative’ independents that just don’t like the two party system will do what they can to make it SEEM like this is the year for their big break. With a myopic idealism that forgets that 30% that will NEVER vote outside the Republican or Democrat party from either side. (yes.. 60% total)

And The Democrats have just figured out what to do about it. They have found the best thing for those supporting Gary McDowell’s campaign to do, is keep Team Wilson’s dream alive!
