Frank J Deserves An Award

For clear-headed, outside-the-box thinking to diagnose the troubles currently befuddling his Party, his country, and indeed the very human race, FrankJ of IMAO has won the Socrates' Academy Wisdom and Sobriety "Really Smart Blogger Award" award.

A Man's Signature Says A Lot

I'd never seen Harry S Truman's signature before. Here is a man worthy of "the buck stops here". Bold, and incisive, yet also with an artistic side: his signature is enjoyable to look at. It flows, as if looking at it, we get to watch it being created.

But even more than how a man signs his name, where he puts it is the key to knowing him.

America needs you, Harry.

And happy Birthday, Israel.

LA Times Blog Reveals True Journalistic Integrity

Still under pressure to release the Obama-Ayers-Khalidi tape, the LA Times blog can't imagine that two of the 57 staff at Slate would fail to announce their intention to vote for Obama. I'd like to think they were being ironic, but I can't see it:

2 dumb Slate staffers split with wiser colleagues on Obama vote

One writer has broken ranks with Slate's slate of writers and intends to vote for John McCain! The Republican senator from Arizona.

Where Obama Gets His Ideas

Reading Fareed Zakaria's The Post-American World. Zakaria is a Yale alum with a Harvard PhD. From Zakaria's site for the book:

Zakaria describes with equal prescience a world in which the United States will no longer dominate the global economy, orchestrate geopolitics, or overwhelm cultures. He sees the "rise of the rest"—the growth of countries like China, India, Brazil, Russia, and many others—as the great story of our time, and one that will reshape the world.
Of note is this magazine interview (pdf).

In an upcoming article for Newsweek, Who is the Real Appeaser?, Zakaria slams President Bush for not talking to Hezbollah. I don't like his logic, but a thorough analysis will have to wait.

In Theaters This Fall

Here is a movie trailer, like many others you'll see. Yet another Harrison Ford movie about the White House.

The problem with movie trailers is that like this one, they seem all nice and uncontroversial. All light and airy, somewhere between a romantic comedy and a Disney "Wacky Kid Detective" flick. Then you watch it, and they hit you over the head with their political message.

Do you think this one would be political? Because I hate that, and you can never tell from the trailer.

Philadelphia Freedom

Just a bunch of typical white people in Pennsylvania, clinging to their guns and religion.
