More On Obama

The consensus among non-idiots appears to be "Nice speech ... hey, wait: did he say that?"

Jamal McCoy:

As an American with Black ancestry (that’s my new way of putting it!) I didn’t choose him to speak on my behalf to America, and tell my peers and co-workers that somewhere inside I harbor hatred towards them, which is expressed regularly on Sundays.I didn’t choose Obama as my representative! If I was sitting in a Church like his, I’d get up during the sermon and boo, before filing a “hate-speech” complaint.

And this brilliant comment:
Why is a guy who grew up a rich kid with a Kenyan father and Southern White mother (no ties to being a slave whatsoever) lecturing Northern Whites regarding the Civil War when it was our ancestors who fought and died in the Union Army to free the slaves?

"As easy as it is for those of us who are white, to look back and say "That's a terrible statement!"...I grew up in a very segregated south. And I think that you have to cut some slack -- and I'm gonna be probably the only Conservative in America who's gonna say something like this, but I'm just tellin' you -- we've gotta cut some slack to people who grew up being called names, being told "you have to sit in the balcony when you go to the movie. You have to go to the back door to go into the restaurant. And you can't sit out there with everyone else. There's a separate waiting room in the doctor's office. Here's where you sit on the bus..." ~ Mike Huckabee, March 19, 2008

It would be useful to remember the American that Jeremiah Wright, 66, grew up in. Just as I cut my father some slack when he occasionally say something racially offensive.

So because he grew up with racism, as we all did, he now gets to say that the government sent AIDS and cocaine to kill and addict blacks?

Excellent quotes Socrates.

knighterrant, that would be useful if Jeremiah Wright, 66, were calling people whitey or honkey, and suggesting they don't smell nice or might be racists.

When he's suggesting the United States is a state terrorist worse than stateless terrorist groups like AQ and actively engaged in an attempted genocide against black people ...

Well suffice it to say his shield of anachronism can't cover everything. There is a field too far, and he is far afield.

I think Obama is one of the first, publicly "bad" Christians (as opposed to Loren's often-quoted "good Christians"). If indeed, he is Christian, for all I know (!)

Apparently, numerous black ministers feel the same way now. ~Jimmy

"he grew up with racism, as we all did"

I'm curious LH, what was the existential trauma you experienced growing up with racism?

Loren Heal said...

Existential? No. But attempting to become educated in an integrated public school system could have left me with the impression of all blacks as racist bullies who actively discourage one another from being successful. I do not have that impression.
